Box Score Shelton, CT - The Post University men's hockey team held a third period lead but fell to Franklin Pierce, 4-3 in Northeast-10 (NE10) action on Friday evening at The Rinks at Shelton.
Post is now 6-18-1 overall and 4-12-1 in the NE10. Franklin Pierce moves to 10-17-1 overall and 7-9-1 in the conference.
The Eagles struck first at the 8:25 mark in the first when
Niko Grollman raced up the ice, taking it coast to coast, putting a wrist shot by Kyle Martin to put Post up, 1-0. It was Grollman's eighth goal of the season.
Post held the lead until the final minute of the period when Anthony Nikolopoulos tied it up for the Ravens. However, the tie didn't last long as 18 seconds later,
Nick Weber deflected a shot from Grollman that went past Martin for his 14th goal of the season, which leads the team.
Lucas Baksay also was credited with an assist of the play.
Post held the lead all the til the 19:31 mark of the second when Vito Carlo knotted up the game at 2-2, heading into the third.
The Eagles took their third lead of the game in the third at the 7:40 mark when a pass from
Justin Harshaw was tipped to a streaking
Brandon Crowther who rushed in and put it by Martin on a breakaway to put Post up, 3-2 on his fifth goal of the season.
Tommy Buis also earned an assist on the goal.
Franklin Pierce responded just 34 seconds later on a goal from Stephen Jacobs, tying the game at 3-3. Jacobs would prove to be the hero for the Ravens, scoring his second goal of the game, and the game-winner at the 11:26 mark taking a pass from Nikolopoulos and putting it past Post goaltender,
Drew Blodgett.
Blodgett finished with 26 saves on the day.
The Eagles took 42 shots on the day with Grollman and
Michael Karas leading the way with five apiece.
The two teams meet again on Saturday at 2:15 p.m. in Shelton.
