Worcester, Mass. - The Post University men's ice hockey team tied Assumption 1-1 on Friday evening in Northeast-10 (NE10) action.
After a scoreless first period, the Eagles (6-16-1, 4-11-1 NE10) got on the board with their 24th power play goal of the season on a 5-on-3 when
Nick Weber passed the puck to
Patrick Murphy who was on the right side of the net next to the pipe. He backhanded a pass to
Michael Gethings who stuffed the puck into the back of the net for his third goal of the season at the 5:51 mark. He has now scored in two straight games
Post held that lead deep into the third behind the play of
Drew Blodgett in net, but the Greyhounds broke through with a goal at the 14:08 mark of the third period from Ronny Paragallo, tying the game up, and ultimately sending it into overtime.
In overtime, the Greyhounds (14-9-1, 10-5-1 NE10), outshot the Eagles 5-2, but no one was able to get it past each netminder.
Blodgett finished with 43 saves, his second-highest total of the season.
Post finished with 23 shots ion the evening, with Gethings leading the way with five.
Jacob Howell had four. Post won the faceoff battle, 39-31 as
Conner Murray went 10-3 in the draws, while Murphy went 10-8.
The two teams will meet Saturday at 12:30 p.m. in Worcester.
