Waterbury, CT - D.J. Frechette and the Post University men's basketball team finished their regular season with a bang, then another one, then another one and then a bunch more as the Eagles hit a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) and school record with 24 threes, 12 of them coming from Frechette in a 112-70 drubbing of Felician at the Drubner Center on Saturday afternoon.
The win puts the Eagles into the CACC Tournament as the fourth seed in the North and will take on Jefferson, the top seed in the North on Tuesday, February 28 at 7:30 p.m. in Philadelphia.
Frechette finished with a career-high 36 points, hitting 12 of his 16 three-point attempts on the day, including ten of his first 11.
Post opened up the game with a three from
Isaiah Holmes just 18 seconds in and
Davis Jasson hit one as the Eagles scored the first ten points of the game in just 1:27 of action.
The lead continued to grow as Jasson hit another three and Frechette began his hot shooting hitting his first three three-pointers as well as a three from
Abdul-Basit Ajia to put the Eagles up 29-4 at the 14:35 mark. Frechette would hit five more threes in the half and
Cape Holden would hit three more threes and Ajia would hit his second three seconds before the clock expired to put the Eagles up 67-28 at the half.Â
Frechette shot 8-for-9 from three in the first half, and the Eagles hit 16 of their 25 attempts (64 percent).
The second half began similarly as Frechette scored 12 straight points on four threes as the Eagles took an 80-34 lead at the 15:18 mark. Post led by as much as 49 points in the half when they took a 91-42 lead after a
Kyle Alcy layup at the 11:15 mark.
The Eagles hit eight threes in the second half as Holden hit two more and Holmes and Jasson hit one.
Holden finished with a career-high 20points. Jasson scored 13. Holmes had his first double-double of the season with 12 points and a career-high ten assists. Ajia had 11 points with six rebounds.
Harrison Warnock had a team-high 11 rebounds.
Trent Westbrook scored a career-high six points off the bench.
Post shot 24-for-41 (58.5 percent) from three. During the first meeting between the two teams, an 87-63 Post victory on January 17, the Eagles went 17-for-28 from three, which was the second most all-time. The Eagles broke their previous three-point record of 18 which they accomplished in a win over Holy Family in 2018-2019.
The 42 point margin of victory was the largest since a 101-58 win over Holy Family during the 2019-2020 season. It's also the sixth win this season of 20 or more points. The 112 points were the most points the Eagles scored in a game since 2003-2004 when they scored 119 over Green Mountain.
The Eagles finish their regular season 15-12 overall and 10-8 in the CACC. Felician finished 6-21 overall and 2-16 in the CACC.
Sean McCarthy led the Golden Falcons with 16 points.
