Philadelphia, Pa. - The Post University men's basketball team's season 15-13came to a close after losing an 86-73 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) quarterfinals game to Thomas Jefferson University on Tuesday evening.
The Eagles finished their season at 15-13. Jefferson improved to 17-11 and will take on Bloomfield in the CACC Semifinals.
Isaiah Holmes led the Eagles with 16 points, while Abdul-Basit Ajia scored 11 points.
Harrison Warnock and
Kyle Alcy each scored ten.
Five different starters scored the first five field goals for the Eagles, but the Rams took a 19-11 lead at the 13:01 mark behind eight points from Ahmed Barba-Bey. The Rams extended their lead to as much as 16 points on two different occasions, but the Eagles rallied to cut their deficit to 39-29 after four points each from Holmes and
David Jasson. The Eagles would get to within eight after layup from Alcy, but the Rams would go into the half leading 49-37 after shooting 17-for-24 (70.8 pct) from the field.
The Eagles fell behind 62-42 after a 13-5 run from the Rams to open the second half, but the Eagles rallied to cut the deficit to 62-52 as
Tyler Small kick started a 10-0 run with a three and capped by a jumper from Holmes at the 11:29 mark. The Rams briefly went back up by 12 but a jumper from
Quest Harris and back-to-back layups from Warnock got the Eagles within six points at 64-58. Again, the Rams increased its lead back to double digits, but four straight points from Ajia made it a 74-68 game with 2:41 remaining. On the ensuing possession, the Rams' Erik Timko hit a three and Barba-Bey followed with a layup to put the game away.
D.J. Frechette finished with seven points. Jasson scored nine. Post won the rebounding edge, 34-28, including 18 offensive rebounds. Holmes finished with five steals on the evening.
Barba-Bey scored 24 points for the Rams. Bismark Nsiah had 17 and Timko, 12.
