Myrtle Beach, S.C. – The Post University baseball team scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth to defeat Adelphi University, 6-5 on Friday evening in non-conference play.
With the Eagles trailing 4-3 entering the bottom half of the eighth,
DJ Caron reached base with one out after being hit by a pitch. After a sacrifice bunt from
Michael Pavelchak advanced Caron to second,
Danny Gill ripped a double down the third base line to score Caron and tie the game, 4-4.
Jimmy Brennan followed with a walk to put runners on first and second, setting the stage for
Robert Olah who doubled to right field to clear the bases to give the Eagles the 6-4 lead which they took into the ninth.
The Panthers scored a run with two outs in the top of the ninth after an RBI single from Johnny Catuosco, but
Jacob Tamburrino got Tim Feliz to fly out to end the game.
Post scored a run in the first three innings to kick off the game. An RBI groundout from Brennan put the Eagles up 1-0 in the first. A solo home run by
Evan Cornwell gave the Eagles a 2-0 lead in the second.
Adelphi stormed back with three runs in the top of the third, highlighted by the first of two triples from Kyle Olson as the Panthers took a 3-2 lead into the bottom of the third.
Post tied the game up with an RBI double from Gill to score Pavelchak, who singled with one out in the inning.
Adelphi would take their 4-3 lead in the top of the sixth on a sacrifice fly from Anthony Cipri.
Dan Raglievich started for the Eagles, pitching 6.2 innings, giving up four runs – three earned – while striking out seven. Tamburrino earned the win in relief after 2.1 innings of work, while allowing just one earned run and striking out one.
Gill finished the game 2-for-4 with one run and two RBI. Caron was 1-for-3 with two runs. Olah drove in two.
The Eagles will continue their trip to Myrtle Beach as they take on Queens in a doubleheader, beginning at 2:30 p.m.
