Shelton, CT - The Post University men's hockey team lost a 4-2 Northeast-10 (NE10) game to Saint Michael's on Saturday afternoon at The Rinks at Shelton in their final game of the regular season.
Post finishes its season 6-21-2 overall and 4-14-2 in the NE10, while the Purple Knights finished 13-11-1 overall and 13-7-1 in the NE10.
The Eagles got on the board just 4:26 into the first period on a power play as
Michael Gethings scored his fourth goal of the season when he took a rebound off a shot from
Nick Brewer that Saint Michael's goaltender Marshall Murphy couldn't grasp. Gethings found the loose puck and put it into the net to put Post up 1-0..
Just less than three minutes later
John Arciszewski, playing in his final regular season game at Post, scored his first career goal as he took a wrist shot that was originally stopped by Marshall. The puck came back out to Arciszewski who took a wrist shot through a maze of people that found the back of the net to put Post up, 2-0 at 7:24.
Jacob Howell and
Patrick Murphy earned assists on the goal.
Zach Richards kept the Purple Knights scoreless until the final minute of the first when Quinn McCarthy scored on a power play to make it 2-1, a lead Post held into the first intermission.
The Purple Knights tied the game on yet another power play as Zach Taylor as a pass from Brennan McFarland bounced off McCarthy to Taylor, who scored his NE10 leading 17th goal of the season.
Saint Michael's took their first lead of the game at the 6:00 minute mark of the third as
Case Kantgias scored from 25 feet out on a 4-on-4, making it a 3-2 game. Saint Michael's added an empty net goal at 18:41. Brennan McFarland finished with four assists on the day.
Richards finished with 43 saves on the day. Post finished with 27 shots on goal, with Murphy and
Lucas Baksay leading the way with three apiece.
Up next, the Eagles, who are seeded sixth in the NE10, will travel to No. 3 Assumption in the first round of the NE10 Tournament on Tuesday, February 21. The game is a rematch of last season's NE10 Championship game, which Assumption won, 4-3.
