Worcester, MA. - The Post University men's hockey season came to an end after losing a 7-2 game to Assumption University in the Northeast-10 (NE10) Quarterfinals.
The Eagles finish their season 6-22-2 overall. Assumption improves to 16-14-1 and will move on to take on Saint Michael's in the semifinals.
The game was a rematch of the 2021-2022 NE10 Championship.
The Greyhounds got on the board with goals from Jimmy McDermott at 5:22 before Colin Phillipon followed with one a 13:51 to make it a 2-0 lead.
Post got one back just 58 seconds later, as
Michael Gethings grabbed a rebound in front of the net off a shot from
Nick Brewer and stuffed it past Greyhounds goaltender Drew Benedict to make it a 2-1 game. The goal came just eight seconds into a power play for the Eagles. It was the fifth goal of the season for Gethings.
The Greyhounds went into the first intermission with the narrow lead, but scored just 1:29 into the second on a goal from Michael Zampanti on a rush into the offensive sone. They'd added two more goals in the period on a goal from Mike D'Ambrosio who ripped a shot from the faceoff circle to make it 4-1 at 8:13. Shane Sullivan added one more goal before the Eagles scored their second of the night as
Justin Harshaw scored a goal off a pass from
Patrick Murphy at the 15:55 mark.
It was his second goal of the year for Harshaw.
Assumption added two power play goals just 19 seconds apart from Christopher Stalmok and D'Ambrosio in the third for the final two goals of the game.
Drew Blodgett finished with 45 saves on the night, including 19 in the first period.
Assumption took the faceoff battle, 35-25. Murphy went 12-11 in his draws.
