Caldwell, N.J. - The Post University men's basketball team's second half rally fell just short, losing a 64-59 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North Division game against Caldwell on Tuesday evening.
The loss pushes the Eagles to 14-11 overall and 9-7 in the CACC. Caldwell has now won ten straight and are 18-7 overall and 14-2 in the CACC.
D.J. Frechette led the Eagles with 19 points to go with four rebounds. Abdul-Basit Ajia had a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Harrison Warnock had ten points and nine rebounds.
The Eagles had just one lead in the first half, taking a 7-6 lead early on after a three from Frechette at the 16:12 mark. Caldwell answered with a 17-5 run, as Darnell Evans scored ten straight points for the Cougars, making it a 23-12 game. A basket from
Kyle Alcy cut the deficit back to nine but it'd be the last time the Eagles would be within single digits in the half as Caldwell led by as much as 16 and going into the half leading 40-27. Ajia scored eight of points in the half, while Alcy scored six points in the first half.
Caldwell extended its lead to 21 at 53-32 with 11:36 remaining in the second half before the Eagles started to chip away going on a 20-5 run as Frechette scored nine points and Ajia scored four during the run. Post hit two threes in the run.
After Caldwell brought its lead back to 60-52 a dunk from Ajia and jumper from Warnock cut the lead to 60-56. Caldwell went back up by six, but on the following possession, Frechette was fouled taking a three. He made all three free throws. On the ensuing possession, Caldwell's Kirk Parsons had his layup blocked by
Quest Harris, but he grabbed his own rebound and made a jumper to go back up 64-59. The Eagles had three opportunities in their final possession, but couldn't get any of their three-point attempts to drop.
Alcy finished with eight points.Â
Evans led Caldwell with 19 points. Parsons had ten.
