Waterbury, CT - The Post University baseball team swept Saint Anselm, 15-8 and 10-0 on Sunday afternoon in a non-conference doubleheader at Municipal Stadium.
Post took three of four games from the weekend over the Hawks.
In the game one win, the Eagles used a seven-run bottom of the eighth to help vault them to victory.
After the Hawks scored five runs in the top of the seventh to tie the game at 8-8, the Eagles opened up the inning with a single from
Shane Lindemuth, followed by
DJ Caron reaching on an error. After a groundout, Damaruys Rodriguez broke the tie with a two-run single, making it a 10-8 game. A single from
Jimmy Brennan scored Rodriguez and
Danny Gill doubled to score Brennan put Post up, 12-8. Two passed balls gave the Eagles a 14-8 lead before a single from Caron put the cherry on top of the inning with an RBI single to score
Hunter Keller.
The Eagles scored a run in the first and third inning on an RBI groundout from
Robert Olah and an RBI single from
Evan Cornwell. With the game tied at two in the bottom of the fifth, Post scored two in the fifth, including an RBI double from Pavelchak.
Post took an 8-2 lead after a four-run bottom of the sixth on a two-run single from Killer and RBI singles from Gill and Caron.
Rodriguez finished 3-for-6 with two runs and two RBI. Caron was 2-for-5 with two RBI and a run. Gill went 5-for-6 with two RBI and three runs. Pavelchak was 2-for-5 with an RBI and run. Brennan was 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI.
Derek Duval earned the win in relief with one strikeout giving up just one hit in 1.1 innings.
Joe Christiana came out of the bullpen, throwing five innings, striking out five and giving up just one earned run.
In game two,
Justin Portes held the Hawks hitless until the sixth inning as he struck out five and earning the win.
Offensively, the Eagles scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth as
Chris Corchado got the scoring going with an RBI single. Rodriguez added a two-run single in the inning and Brennan had an RBI single.
Post added two more in the third on an RBI single from Cornwell and an RBI line out from Pavelchak. Post added one more in the fourth and two in the sixth as Olah had an RBI double and Cornwell had his second RBI of the day on a single.
Up next, the Eagles will head to Myrtle Beach to take on Adelphi on Feb. 24 at 5 p.m.
