Frechette Scores 1,000th Point As Men’s Basketball Defeats Wilmington

Wilmington, De. - D.J. Frechette scored his 1,000th career point as the Post University men's basketball team got off to a fast start and defeated Wilmington, 92-81 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game on Saturday afternoon.

Frechette becomes the 14th player in program history to reach the 1,000-point mark and the first since Tyler Desrosiers reached it in the 2017-2018 season. Frechette's monumental points came on a layup with 7:29 remaining in the first half on an assist from Harrison Warnock.
Frechette helped get the Eagles going hitting a three for the first points for the Eagles jumped out to a 33-7 lead to begin the game. During the opening run, the Eagles hit nine three pointers, including four each from Cape Holden David Jasson as the Eagles caught fire early.

The Eagles went 10-for-16 (62.5 pct.) in the half and shot 58.1 percent from the field in the half, while holding the Wildcats to 1-for-8 shooting from three.

Wilmington made a run of their own to close the half, cutting the Eagles lead to 47-34 as Randy Rickards scored 11 of his team-high 22 points for the Wildcats.

The Wildcats trimmed the Eagles' lead down to 49-43 after a dunk from Taalib Holloman at the 16:46 mark. The Eagles responded with a three-pointer from Holden and five points from Isaiah Holmes as part of a 13-7 run that brought the Eagles back up to a 62-50 lead at the 11:59.
Again, Wilmington would trim the lead to five, the final three coming from Justin Thomas, but two threes from Frechette, a jumper from Holmes and a layup from Abdul-Basit Ajia put the Eagles back up 72-61.

Post took a 13-point lead at the 4:35 mark on a layup from Quest Harris made it an 81-68 game. Wilmington made one final push and cut the lead to 84-77 with just over a minute left, but the Eagles would go 8-for-8 down the stretch at the free-throw line to take the win.
Post finished the evening going 15-for-23 from three, for their second most threes in a game this season in a game.

Frechette finished with a team-high 24 points, including 5-for-7 from three to go with four rebounds and three assists. Holden finished with a career-high 15 points. Holmes finished with 15 points, four rebounds and six assists. Jasson finished with 14 points, four rebounds and three assists. Warnock scored 11 and Ajia had a team-high 13 rebounds to go with nine points. Ajia has nine double-digit rebound games on the season, including three in a row and four of their last five.

Frechette now has 1,020 points in his career.

The Eagles outrebounded Wilmington 39-29.

Thomas finished with 21 points for Wilmington.
