Browning Scores Game-Winner As Women's Hockey Rallies From Down Two To Beat Franklin Pierce In Overtime

Shelton, CT - Kiersten Browning scored a game-winning goal with 19 seconds remaining in overtime as the Post University women's hockey team rallied from two goals down to defeat Franklin Pierce, 3-2 in a New England Women's Hockey Alliance (NEWHA) game.

With the clock dwindling down in overtime, Madeleine Noonan took a shot from the right faceoff circle that was initially stopped by Franklin Pierce's goaltender, Jill Hertl. Browning, who was skating towards the net, took the rebound and punched it in to give the Eagles the win on her team-leading eighth goal of the season.

The overtime goal was the culmination of a comeback that saw the Eagles go down 2-0 at the 9:23 mark of the second period.

The Eagles began their rally just over five minutes later in the second as a shot from Caisey van den Oetelaar off a pass from Holly Kubichek was stopped by Hertl. The rebound came back out to the front of the net, and in a scramble, Rylee Patfield was able to put the puck in the net for her third goal of the season.

Franklin Pierce took the one-goal lead deep into the third period until Jenna Abeyta took a wrist shot just inside the blue line off a pass from Browning with six seconds left on a power play that got past Hertl to tie the game at the 14:19 mark. It was Abeyta's fourth goal of the season.

In the first period, the Ravens got on the board Julia Steven's first of two goals on the day at the 17:51 mark. She'd tack on her second goal in the second period at 9:23.

Grace Glasrud kept the game close in net, stopping 47 shots, her second highest total of the season. It was also her second win in net over the Ravens this season. The Eagles have won two of their last three games against Franklin Pierce.

The two teams will meet again on Saturday on Senior Day for the Eagles at 2:30 p.m. in Shelton.
