Women's Ice Hockey Unable to Keep Pace With No. 9 Quinnipiac University

HAMDEN, Conn. – In what was arguably their toughest matchup in program history, Post University Women's Ice Hockey took on ninth-nationally ranked Quinnipiac University down in Hamden. The Bobcats, who has made back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances, reaching the Semifinals last season before falling to Ohio State, had a strong showing, limiting the Eagles to one goal in a 12-1 win in the first-ever matchup between the two programs.

HOW IT HAPPENED
All three goalies would see time for the Eagles as senior goalie Grace Glasrud started off the game in which she would make 15 saves, but the Bobcats would put three on the scoreboard with graduate defenseman Kate Reilly, junior forward Veronica Bac, and freshman forward Kahlen Lamarche all tallying goals in the opening frame.
 
It would be sophomore goalie Hannah Saunders time in net during the second period and during her appearance she would make 17 saves while Bac added her second goal, graduate forward Julia Nearis and junior forward Maya Labad each netted two goals a piece.
 
Sophomore goalie Hali Lawrence would play in the final 20 minutes of the affair, stopping 11 pucks while the Eagles would get their first goal of the evening from sophomore forward Rylee Patfield which was assisted by junior forward Julia Wysocki and freshman forward Jet Devlin. The Bobcats would tack on three more goals to make it a 12-1 final as Reilly would get a hat trick, scoring the last two goals of the three, and junior forward Mallory Mauracher would get the first goal of the third.

  • Freshman forward Macy Peterson won a team-high 8-of-9 faceoffs in the game, Peterson has won 91 faceoffs and lost 83 faceoffs this season
  • As a team, Post University blocked 19 total shots, their fourth-most in a game this year
  • Quinnipiac University's 12-goal showing broke their program record for most goals in a game
  • The 12 goals allowed by Post University are the most given up since January 5th, 2023 against Mercyhurst University when they gave up 13 goals
  • This was the first time in program history in which both teams faced off against each other and first time Post University has faced a nationally ranked team
 
WHO'S NEXT
Post University heads on the road to face Franklin Pierce University in a pair of New England Women's Hockey Alliance conference matchups starting on Friday evening at 7:00 PM. In their last four matchups, the Eagles are 2-2-0 against the Ravens, having snapped a 20-game losing streak to start the all-time series last December.
