Women's Ice Hockey Shutout By Franklin Pierce on Friday

GARDNER, Mass. -- Looking to bounce back after their road test against ninth-ranked Quinnipiac University, Post Women's Ice Hockey returned to New England Women's Hockey Alliance action on the road against Franklin Pierce University on Friday for their first of two games in the matchup. A quick start by the Ravens would be all they needed to take the first game, 6-0, shutting out the Eagles for the sixth time in 13 games this season.

THE BASICS

Post University 0, Franklin Pierce University 6

Post University (3-10-0, 3-5-0 NEWHA)

Franklin Pierce University (3-6-0, 3-4-0 NEWHA)

HOW IT HAPPENED
A boarding penalty to junior defenseman Sajel Desai just over a minute into the game would be all it took to get the Ravens' offense going as graduate forward Jenna Hartung scored only eight seconds into the power play opportunity with junior defenseman Julia Stevens and senior forward Emilie Prive assisting on the goal. Stevens would assist on the second goal of the first as well alongside Hartung when junior forward Mikayla Kelley netted her first of two goals on the evening against senior goalie Grace Glasrud with 44.5 seconds left in the frame.

Once again a quick start to the period paid off for Franklin Pierce as Prive scored only 1:25 into second from freshman defenseman Jenna Sharland before senior forward Jenna Ruiz tallied her first of two goals on the assist from sophomore defenseman McKenzie Rich to make it a 4-0 game. On the other side, sophomore goalie Jill Hertl would shut down the Eagle offense with five saves in the opening period followed by 10 more in the second.

Both Ruiz and Kelley would each tally a third-period goal while Hertl stopped seven more Post scoring attempts as the sophomore earned her second shutout of the season in a 6-0 win for the Ravens on Friday night.
