Rose Nets First Collegiate Goal, Women's Ice Hockey Swept in Weekend Series at Franklin Pierce

GARDNER, Mass. – The offensive struggles for Post University Women's Ice Hockey continued on Saturday night as the Eagles dropped their fifth straight game and seventh consecutive road game overall against Franklin Pierce University, 3-1, falling to 3-6-0 to start off conference play this season.

THE BASICS

Post University 1, Franklin Pierce University 3

Post University (3-11-0, 3-6-0 NEWHA)

Franklin Pierce University (4-6-0, 4-4-0 NEWHA)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Two first-period goals for the Ravens would be all they would need to take down the Eagles on Saturday evening, both of which would be scored by junior forward Mikayla Kelley. The first goal for the junior would come just under 4 ½ minutes into the game, unassisted, before sophomore defenseman McKenzie Rich and sophomore forward Anna Caumo helped Kelley net her second goal against sophomore Hannah Saunders with 5:25 left in the same frame.

Graduate forward Jenna Hartung would generate her second goal of the weekend and third of the game for the Ravens in the second period just over the halfway point of the frame from Kelley, giving Franklin Pierce a three-goal cushion. Sophomore goalie Olivia Klunowski continued her strong play, stopping four more Eagle shots to hold that 3-0 lead heading into the third.

Neither side would be able to get many offensive opportunities over the final 20 minutes of play, combining for seven shots on goal. On their sixth and final power play of the afternoon, freshman defenseman Jodie Rose would tip in the initial shot by junior defenseman Sajel Desai with 38 seconds left in the game, giving Post their lone goal of the weekend, and Rose her first collegiate goal, as the Ravens completed the sweep with a 3-1 win.

BY THE NUMBERS
  • A low offensive affair saw just 32 combined shots between the two teams with Saunders stopping 20 pucks and Klunowski corralling 12 saves
  • Having six more power play opportunities, Post University was only able to convert on one of them, the final one of the evening, while going a perfect 3-for-3 on the penalty kill
  • Mikayla Kelley finishes the weekend with four goals and an assist against Post University – Kelley played a role in all three goals of the evening for Franklin Pierce University
  • Post University is now 1-9-0 on the road this season with their sole win coming against Stonehill College in their first conference game of the year
WHO'S NEXT
Post University hits home ice for the first time since October 28th with a matchup against Assumption University slated for 1:15 pm next Saturday at the Sports Center of Connecticut in Shelton, Connecticut. In the first matchup in program history for the two teams, junior forward Julia Wysocki's hat trick helped lead a two-goal comeback for the Eagles who ultimately fell in overtime to the Greyhounds in overtime, 5-4.
