Fear the Four! Four-Time Defending Champion Men's Soccer Nets Four Goals, Advance to CACC Semifinals

WATERBURY, Conn. -- Earlier this year when Post University Men's Soccer took on Goldey-Beacom College at LaMoy Field, the two sides worked to a 0-0 tie in a game where the Eagles were unable to cash in on their chances. On Monday, it was a completely different story as the ninth-ranked team in the nation would cash in on all necessary opportunities to come away with a 4-1 win over the Lightning and advance to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Semifinals on Friday to take on fifth-seeded Jefferson University.

THE BASICS

#9 Post University 4, Goldey-Beacom College 1

#9 Post University (11-1-5)

Goldey-Beacom College (6-10-2)

HOW IT HAPPENED
It did not take long for the Eagles to get the offense going after scoring just six goals in their last five regular season games as junior defender Alessandro Salvadori and sophomore forward Aritz Uriate teamed up with graduate forward Gentian Selimi for the first goal of the game only two minutes into the match. Selimi's shot would find the top left corner of the net, beating freshman goalkeeper Aeddan Jones.

It would be Uriate's turn to score in the 17th minute when junior defender Omar Florindo found the sophomore weaving in between defenders before he rifled a shot by the right side of Jones to extend the Eagle lead to two goals, 2-0. Less than two minutes after that, a corner kick opportunity taken by graduate midfielder Andrea Berti would yield the third goal of the afternoon was graduate midfielder Luca Dettoli fired a shot that caromed off a few Lightning defenders into the back of the net.

Capping off their high-scoring first half was Uriate with his second goal in only 24 minutes as Berti set up Florindo with a pass in which he would lift in the air to Uriate. Falling towards the goal, Uriate managed to get his head on the ball and get it just inside the right goal post for the fourth goal of the first half which would be all the Eagles need to cruise to a 4-1 win to advance to the CACC Semifinals which will be played down in Bridgeport on Friday.

Junior midfielder Oliver Person would have the lone goal of the afternoon for the Lightning with 10:50 to go in the second half after senior midfielder Eduardo Coimbra found him near the end line with a pass which he would cross just inside the left goal post past junior goalkeeper Rodrigo de la Terga, who played the second half in net for the Eagles.

BY THE NUMBERS
