Uriate Takes Flight in Eagles' Semifinal Win, Men's Soccer On Cusp of Fifth Straight CACC Tournament Title

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – With the way Post University Men's Soccer has looked through the first two games of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament, beating them may be easier said than done as they vie for their fifth straight conference title on Sunday afternoon at 2:00 PM.

Another dominant offensive performance for the Eagles saw them put up three first-half goals in the semifinals on Friday against fifth-seeded Jefferson University en route to a 5-0 win. Post has now outscored their opponents 7-0 in the first half of their tournament matches.

THE BASICS

#11 Post University 5, Jefferson University 0

#11 Post University (12-1-5)

Jefferson University (9-9-0)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Sophomore forward Aritz Uriate continued his hot streak in the tournament, making him a top contender for the Most Valuable Player award which will be handed out on Sunday. He would put the Eagles on the scoreboard just 8:01 into the match when sophomore forward Manuel Rilova crossed a pass near the end line between the Jefferson defenders to the foot of Uriate who simply tapped it into the net for the opening goal.

Nine minutes later, sophomore midfielder Markus Boe Tunge's header off the corner kick from graduate midfielder Andrea Berti doubled the lead for the Eagles to two after a Jefferson defender attempted to deflect it out of harms way and it found Boe Tunge in the perfect spot to beat graduate goalkeeper Matteo Crescente.

Scoring his second goal of the first half, Uriate would be the recipient of a Berti corner kick in the box, this time on the left side where he would kick it in midair into the top left corner to extend the Eagle lead to three goals, 3-0. On the other side of the pitch, junior Soren Jensen would not have to do too much before halftime as the Post defense limited the Rams to just one shot on goal which Jensen would stop.

Junior defender Felipe Garcia who was just named First Team All-Conference, joined the scoring sheet with his first collegiate goal in the second half on yet another corner kick for the Eagles, this time by junior forward Francisco Sousa with a header to beat Crescente.

Then it would be Sousa's turn to put one in the back of the net, putting an exclamation point on the dominant afternoon for the Eagles as he took on two defenders to the left of Crescente and attempted to fire a shot. Although deflected by the Rams' defense, the ball would ricochet into the air and fall into the net before the Eagles closed out the 5-0 win.

BY THE NUMBERS
  • With another multi-goal game, Aritz Uriate has 14 goals this season and five multi-score matches – Uriate had back-to-back two-goal games earlier this season against Dominican (N.Y.) and then Chestnut Hill
