Game Recap: Women's Volleyball | | Michael Vesci, Director of Athletic Communications

Women's Volleyball Falls to Chestnut Hill, Cemented as Fourth Seed in North Division for CACC Tournament

WATERBURY, Conn. -- For Post University Women's Volleyball to move up to the third seed in the North Division for the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament, they would need win their final two conference matches while Dominican (N.Y.) lost their final three. An earlier win by the Lady Chargers against Georgian Court solidified the Eagles as the fourth seed in the division, meaning they will travel to face the top seed from the South Division in the CACC Quarterfinals.

On the other side, the Griffins still had CACC Tournament seeding to fight for, looking to make up ground on Jefferson University to capture the South Division crown. The Rams held a two-game lead with three games remaining in the regular season before falling the Felician University in straight sets earlier in the day. Now that margin is just one with Jefferson facing Wilmington and Bloomfield to end their season while Chestnut Hill will head to Georgian Court before closing at home against Dominican (N.Y.).

Looking to at least snap their losing streak and pick up steam heading into the tournament, the Eagles would look for a win at the Drubner Center against the Griffins, but a wire-to-wire match from Chestnut Hill saw Post fall in straight sets, 3-0, bringing their losing streak to three straight matches.

THE BASICS

Post University 0, Chestnut Hill College 3

Post University (6-23, 6-9 CACC)

Chestnut Hill College (12-12, 10-4 CACC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
An impressive .419 hitting percentage in the opening set for Chestnut Hill would be more than enough to take set one handedly over Post as the Eagles attacked at just .026, converting seven of their 38 total attacks. 15 first set kills for the Griffins helped them quickly take a seven-point lead, 10-3, a lead that would balloon to its set-high when Chestnut Hill capped off the 25-12 win in a frame which included six attack errors and three service errors for Post.

A closer second set saw seven ties between the two teams along with three lead changes before the Griffins would ultimately pull away. A 3-0 run early on saw Post go ahead, 6-3, but it would be short-lived as the two sides would find themselves tied at eight. Once more, the Eagles pushed their lead out with a 5-0 run behind two kills from junior middle hitter Hannah Brandt to lead 14-9. The 6-0 response from Chestnut Hill would be swift and after being tied at 16 all, they would run away with set two as three errors and a myriad of kills from three different players gave the Griffins a 25-19 set win.

Continuing their dominance in the match, two kills from junior outside hitter Erika Dubosky helped pace the Griffins to a quick 5-1 lead in the early stages of the third, giving them a lead they would never relinquish. A 5-1 run after taking a 13-8 edge on the Eagles would help spur Chestnut Hill to their largest lead of the set, 18-9, as Post would then desperately try to claw their way back into it. A 3-0 run courtesy of an error then a service ace and kill from junior outside hitter Tamara Radovanov would pull the Eagles within four, 23-19, but Dubosky would shut the door on the comeback attempt with a kill and service ace for the 25-19 set win and sweeping victory for the Griffins.

BY THE NUMBERS
