PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. -- With the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament just around the corner, Post University Women's Volleyball looked to snap their losing streak and get some momentum going heading into next week with final road matchup of the regular season against Pace University. For the fourth time in the series history and second time in a row, the Eagles would take down the Setters, this time in four sets, 3-1, on Wednesday night.
THE BASICS
Post University 3, Pace University 1
Post University (7-23)
Pace University (13-9)
HOW IT HAPPENED
Attacking at a .200 hitting percentage in the first set, the Eagles would fall behind a Pace team that hit at just .194 in the opening frame, 7-3, before going on an 8-2 run featuring three errors by the Setters, two kills from junior setter
Colleen Romero, a service ace, and a kill from junior outside hitter
Caley Harper to take an 11-9 lead. In a set that was defined by runs from both sides, the Eagles would ultimately best Pace down the stretch, halting their 3-0 run that got them within three points, getting a kill from junior outside hitter
Kaila Sandy for the 25-21 set one win.
In their worst set of the match, which would be the only set they would lose, the Eagles committed nine total errors while attacking at -.026. However on the opposite side, Pace would struggle as well, committing seven errors and attacking at .111 hitting percentage. A 7-0 run by Post seemingly gave them control of the set, 14-9, but the Setters would respond and keep it close although the Eagles would never relinquish the lead. That would be until they were within two points of the set two win, when two errors, a service ace, and a kill from junior middle blocker Daniella Abbastante culminated in a 4-0 Setters run that helped them get a 25-23 come-from-behind win.
Despite nine errors in set number three, Pace would hold a five-point lead, 16-11, before the Eagles charged back into the set with a 8-1 run which was spearheaded by five of those nine errors coming back to haunt the Setters in a critical set they would end up dropping. Once again on the verge of victory, Post would have to halt another 3-0 run from Pace which featured two errors from the Eagles as senior setter
Izabella Rae gave the Eagles a 25-22 win with her set ending kill.
With the score tied at seven in a potential match-clinching set for Post, Pace would use an 8-3 stretch which featured two 4-0 runs sandwiched around a 3-0 Eagles run to lead 15-10. Showing resolve like they did all night long, a massive 8-1 run in which Post capitalized off four errors, a kill from Sandy and Harper, and two kills from junior outside hitter
Tamara Radovanov saw the Eagles take an 18-16 edge. Trailing 21-20, a 4-0 run put the Eagles on the edge of victory but another late set run by the Setters knotted the set up at 24. Graduate outside hitter Brielle Jones, who led Pace with 19 kills, would end up assisting in finishing off the Eagles victory as her back-to-back errors sealed the 27-25 win and 3-1 victory for Post.
