MANCHESTER, N.H. -- To be on top, you have to beat the teams who are at the top and Post University Women's Ice Hockey has a chance to do that this week facing off against a Saint Anselm College team that heading into the day led the New England Women's Hockey Alliance with nine points at 4-1-1. The Hawks would show why they led the way in the early part of the season, using three goals between the first and second periods to take the first game of the weekend from the Eagles, 3-1.
THE BASICS

Post University (3-7-0, 3-3-0 NEWHA)
Saint Anselm College (5-5-1, 5-1-1 NEWHA)
HOW IT HAPPENED
16 shots on goal to open the game would pay dividends for the Hawks as junior forward Audrey Jackson was able to beat senior goalie
Grace Glasrud for the first goal of the afternoon after being fed the puck from senior forwards Maddy McCaffery and Claire Weber to make it a 1-0 game. On the other side, freshman goalie Courtney Stagman halted six pucks sent her way by the Eagles to help hold their lead after the first 20 minutes of play.
Saint Anselm would waste no time adding to their lead less than two minutes into the second period as Jackson found Weber after a redirect off the pads of Glasrud to make it a two-score game. As time wore on, Post would get a few odd man-rush opportunities to cut into the deficit by beating Stagman, but the freshman remained poised in the net stopping everything she faced. Meanwhile, her team would tack on another with sophomore forward Brooklyn Schneiderhan getting it past Glasrud on the left side from senior forward Natalie Tulchinsky and junior forward Tyra Turner for the three-goal advantage heading into the third.
While Glasrud would put up her first scoreless period of the game in the third to the tune of 10 saves, Stagman would match her as she would stop four of the five shots she faced before a power-play goal from junior defenseman
Sajel Desai from sophomore forward
Maddy Noonan would be the lone goal for the Eagles with 1:48 left in regulation as they would fall 3-1 on the road to the Hawks.
