Three Times the Charm! Men's Soccer Wins Third Straight CACC Regular Season Title

PHILADELPHIA, Penn. -- On the verge of their third consecutive Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Regular Season Championship, the new ninth nationally-ranked Post University Men's Soccer team would achieve that feat in the most unlikeliest of ways.

A late own goal by Holy Family University in the 84th minute would give the Eagles the lone goal they would need to take a 1-0 victory and capture the CACC Regular Season Championship over Felician University who was hot on their heels for most of the season.

THE BASICS

#9 Post University 1, Holy Family University 0

#9 Post University (10-1-4,98-0-1 CACC)

Holy Family University (5-7-4, 3-5-2 CACC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Junior goalkeeper Soren Jensen would have another light day in the net for the Eagles en route to his seventh shutout of the season which is a new season career-high for him. Jensen now has 13 career shutouts, all of which have come in the last two seasons while going 22-5-7 overall in that span. The junior would need to stop just three shots over the course of his 90 minutes in goal against the Tigers.

In the first half, Post would outshoot Holy Family, 12-0, with only two of those shots reaching junior goalkeeper Cheikh Diouf which would both be stopped. For a majority of the second half the same would be true as both sides held their own to keep the match scoreless in a 45-minute session which would end up featuring a combined five shots on goal (4-2 in favor of Post) and six total corner kicks which favored Holy Family, 4-2.

But the stalemate would be broken in the 84th minute with a cross pass into the box which Diouf ran out to grab before it glanced off his hands. The ball would carom backwards towards the net in the Eagles' favor, giving them a 1-0 lead which they would hold onto has Jensen came up with a save against junior midfielder Tajhay Williams in the 89th minute to clinch their third straight regular season title.

BY THE NUMBERS

  • At 9-0-1, Post University is off to its best start in conference play in program history -- Their best conference finish came in 2013 at 11-1-0 after losing their first match of the conference schedule
  • Post University is now unbeaten in their last 11 games dating back to their match against Franklin Pierce on 9/11/23
  • Making three saves, Soren Jensen tallied his seventh shutout of the season, which sets his career-high
  • This was the ninth shutout of the season for Post University and fourth in their last five matches

WHO'S NEXT
Post University closes the regular season against Felician University who is currently second in the conference at 7-2-0 heading into their evening matchup against Wilmington University. The Eagles are 13-8-2 all-time against the Golden Falcons and have won three consecutive matches against them dating back to 2019 with the latest coming at home, 3-0 last season.
