Adelphi University (17-5)
HOW IT HAPPENED
An opening set lead which would put the Panthers ahead, 9-1, would prove to be all they needed to take the opening set from the Eagles. Attacking at a blistering .424 hitting percentage which led to 15 kills on 33 attempts, Adelphi would never let Post within more than five points, 16-11, before scoring eight of the last 11 points to take an 11-point first-set victory, 25-14. The Panthers would also notch six block assists along the way while sophomore outside hitter Macarty McQueen and junior middle blocker Noelle Alberda each tallied four kills.
Â
Seven ties and three lead changes made up a close second set bout in which the Eagles would ultimately fall, 25-22. Two Panther errors and service aces from junior middle hitter
Hannah Brandt as well as junior outside hitter
Kaila Sandy would put Post ahead by two, 4-2, before Adelphi answered back to take the lead for good. Never letting them out of their sights, the Eagles would only trail by four points, 16-12, before responding with a 4-0 run to knot the set up. Momentum would swing towards Post with back-to-back errors that got them within one, 23-22, but Adelphi would call timeout and finish off the set courtesy of an attack error and then kill by junior middle blocker Lilyen McCarthy.
Â
Adelphi continued to control the pace into the final set, taking a 3-0 lead to start things off with back-to-back kills from McQueen and sophomore middle blocker Delaney Kiendra and a set error from junior outside hitter
Caley Harper. From there, the Panthers would not relinquish the lead again, allowing Post to only cut their deficit down to three points before going on to win the set, 25-17. As a team, Adelphi would attack to the tune of a .310 hitting percentage and leave the Drubner Center with a 3-0 sweep of the Eagles.
