WATERBURY, Conn. - A game of inches ended just short of a ninth consecutive conference win for Post University Men's Soccer on Senior Day Saturday at LaMoy Field against Goldey-Beacom College as the Eagles ended in a scoreless tie with the Lightning despite outshooting them 21-0 overall and 6-0 in shots on goal. A pair of shots hitting the crossbar, including one via penalty kick, would keep the match in the scoreless fashion it would ultimately end in after 90 minutes.Â
THE BASICSÂ

Goldey-Beacom College (5-7-2, 3-3-2 CACC)
HOW IT HAPPENEDÂ
Junior defender Stephen Sprowson nearly gave Post the lead only five minutes into the match, but his shot would hit off the post, bailing out freshman Aeddan Jones as the game remained scoreless. Jones would be challenged just twice in the first half, both shot attempts in which he would save while junior goalkeeper Soren Jensen did not face any pressure from the Lightning.Â
In what could have been the difference maker in the match, sophomore forward Aritz Uriate would have a penalty kick opportunity after a handball in the box by Goldey-Beacom was whistled with just over a minute remaining in the first half. Uriate would beat Jones high, but his shot would ricochet off the crossbar and back into the field of play, briefly giving the Lightning momentum for the final minute of the half.Â
Over the final 45 minutes of play, Post would manufacture 13 shots overall and four more shots against Jones all of which he would stop. An additional three shots towards Jones would hit the crossbar for the Eagles who were unable to finish their opportunities while Jensen would still face no shots from the Lightning in the 0-0 tie.Â
With the tie, the Eagles clinched a top-four spot in the CACC Tournament, ensuring they will host a CACC Quarterfinals match on November 6th at LaMoy Field at 1:00 PM against a team to be determined. Post University is guaranteed at least a top-two seed with two games remaining, including a matchup with Felician who sits four points back with three matches left.Â
