HOW IT HAPPENED
An evenly matched first period saw a combined 15 shots reach both goalies in net as sophomore
Hannah Saunders stopped eight shots that came her way compared to seven sent towards junior Hanna Zukow for the Skyhawks. But it would be Stonehill who got on the board with less than four minutes left the period as junior forward Jose Mendeszoon notched her first goal of the season, unassisted, to put Stonehill ahead 1-0 after one frame.
The Skyhawks would unload on the Eagles in the second period to the tune of three goals, two of which would come on their two power play attempts of the period and game as a whole. Sophomore forward Alexis Petford, who tacked on an assist last night against Post, tallied her first goal of the season on the power play from sophomore forward Maddison Achtyl who had a goal a night ago.
Less than three minutes later, sophomore forward Gracie Sacca added to the Skyhawk lead, beating Saunders unassisted to make it a 3-0 edge. Sophomore forward Bailey Feeney capped off the second period scoring and scoring for the game when sophomore defenseman Sydney Russell and Petford, who scored earlier in the period, helped team up and get the sophomore her first goal of the season.
Trailing most of the way, the Eagles would have plenty of opportunity throughout the afternoon against Zukow to the tune of six power plays which led to a total of 10 shot attempts, but were unable to break through the junior goalie who got her first shutout win of the season as Post University fell 4-0 on the road.
