Selimi Serves Up Griffins on a Saturday, Leads Men's Soccer to 7-0-0 Start in Conference Play

PHILADELPHIA, Penn. -- For Post University Men's Soccer, it has been an unprecedented stretch of success since their loss to the top team in the nation in Franklin Pierce University last month. Coming into the day undefeated in conference play and in their last seven matches since their match against the Ravens, the Eagles would continue their winning ways, getting a go-ahead goal from graduate forward Gentian Selimi in the second half en route to a 3-1 road win against Chestnut Hill College, moving to 7-0-0 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play.

THE BASICS

#11 Post University 3, Chestnut Hill College 1

#11 Post University (8-1-3, 7-0-0 CACC)

Chestnut Hill College (3-6-1, 2-4-0 CACC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
It was another defensive battle for the Eagles as both teams would combine for just 18 total shots and of that only 10 would reach goal throughout the entire 90 minutes of play. However, Post controlled offensively and continued its strong defensive play, holding the Griffins to just one shot on goal in the first half which would be swallowed up by junior goalkeeper Soren Jensen

Meanwhile, sophomore forward Aritz Uriate tallied his ninth goal of the season in the 39th minute from graduate forward Gentian Selimi on one of Post's five first half shots on goal, to take a 1-0 lead heading into the halftime break.

Chestnut Hill would come out of the break with a response, tying things up in the 60th minute on an unassisted goal from freshman midfielder Abdoulaye Kamagate. However, the tie would be quickly broken just over three minutes later by Selimi on a pass from sophomore forward Manuel Rilova to jump back in front, 2-1.

In net, Jensen would not have to make any saves in the second half, totaling just one for the afternoon on two shot attempts from the Griffins while Uriate added his team-leading 10th goal of the season with one second left in the match to solidify Post's victory, 3-1, and keeping pace with Felician University who remains an undefeated 6-0-0 in conference play this year.

BY THE NUMBERS

  • At 7-0-0, Post University is off to their best start in conference play in program history -- Their best conference finish came in 2013 at 11-1-0 after losing their first match of the conference schedule
  • With 10 goals now this season, Aritz Uriate is the first player since Alvaro Sanchez in 2021 (13 goals) to have double-digit goals in a season and is now tied for second-most goals in the conference
  • This is the first time since 2015 in which Chestnut Hill has recorded a goal in match versus Post University, a match in which the Griffins would win, 1-0 in Waterbury, Connecticut
  • In his last seven matches played, Soren Jensen has only had to make 10 saves while going 6-0-1 in that stretch -- Jensen is now 8-1-3 on the season

WHO'S NEXT
Post University comes home for their last two home matches of the regular season, starting off with Caldwell University at 2:30 PM on Tuesday afternoon at LaMoy Field. With an all-time record of 18-5-3 against the Cougars, the Eagles will enter the match on a six-game winning streak in the series after winning in the CACC Quarterfinals last year at home, 4-1.
