Men's Soccer, Anagnostiadis Send Chargers Down Under at LaMoy Field

WATERBURY, Conn. -- Just days after a heartbreaking tie versus Southern Connecticut State University, Post University Men's Soccer came back with a vengeance on Tuesday afternoon against their conference opponent in Dominican (N.Y.), tallying three goals in just over five minutes to start the game before going on to dominate the Chargers en route to a 6-0 victory at LaMoy Field to improve to 6-0-0 in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference this year. While the match was going on, the newest United Soccer Coaches' Poll was released as well, boosting the Eagles to 11th in the nation after previously being ranked 12th last week.

THE BASICS

#11 Post University 6, Dominican (N.Y.) 0

#11 Post University (7-1-3, 6-0-0 CACC)

Dominican (N.Y.) (1-10-0, 1-5-0 CACC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Sophomore forward Aritz Uriate wasted no time getting the Eagles on the scoreboard just over a minute into the match when he was set up across the middle perfectly by junior defender Omar Florindo for the first of what would end up being three goals over the first five or so minutes. Just before the five-minute mark, a take down in the box by the Chargers would lead to a penalty kick which would be taken by graduate midfielder Nick Anagnostiadis which he would convert to the right side of the net, beating sophomore goalkeeper Alessandro Guzzinati to extend the Eagle lead to two, 2-0.

Less than a minute after that, an unassisted rocket by graduate midfielder Andrea Berti that got past Guzzinati made it a three-score game only 5:22 into the match which would be more than enough for the Eagles to fall back on. Unsatisfied with the margin, Uriate would net his second goal of the first half from last game's lone goal scorer in sophomore forward Manuel Rilova which sent Post into the halftime break with a 4-0 lead.

Junior goalkeeper Soren Jensen, who only played in the first half, would face just two shots, both of which he would stop, out of seven total shots taken by the Chargers which all came in the first half. Jensen would be rested in the second half as junior goalkeeper Rodrigo de la Terga and sophomore goalkeeper Alex Morocho split time over the final 45 minutes for the Eagles and faced no shots from Dominican (N.Y.).

Before Anagnostiadis closed out his 65 minutes of play in the match, he would tally his second goal of the afternoon in the 52nd minute as Berti and junior defender Stephen Sprowson teamed up to find the Sydney, Austrailia native for the score, giving the Eagles a 5-0 lead. Junior forward Deni Iljazi would close the 6-0 victory for Post with his 88th minute goal when he took a corner kick from the right side that found its way into the left side of the net behind Guzzinati without being touched as the Eagles moved their unbeaten streak to seven straight matches.

BY THE NUMBERS

  • Post University moves to 6-0-1 in their last seven matches with their last loss coming against the top team in the nation, Franklin Pierce University, and have only allowed one goal during that stretch
  • With his two goals on Tuesday, Aritz Uriate leads the team with eight goals on the year which ranks fifth in the conference -- Uriate also has four game-winning goals this season
  • This was only the second multi-score game for Nick Anagnostiadis whose last multi-score match was against D'Youville University on October 8th last season in which he registered a hat trick
  • The six-goal margin and goals scored are both the largest margin and most scoring Post University has done since that October 8th, 2022 match against D'Youville

WHO'S NEXT
With the remainder of their schedule being conference matches, Post University will hit the road on Saturday and head to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania for a matchup against Chestnut Hill College slated for 2:30 PM. Holding a 10-4-1 record all-time against the Griffins, the Eagles are 5-0-1 in their last six matchups against Chestnut Hill without allowing a goal.
