Waterbury, CT – David Jasson scored 23 points off the bench, including five three-pointers as the Post University men's basketball team led wire-to-wire in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) win over Chestnut Hill on Saturday afternoon at the Drubner Center.
The win moves the Eagles to 8-7 overall and 3-3 in the CACC. The Griffins are now 8-8 overall and 3-3 in the conference.
The Eagles scored the first four points of the game and turned an 8-7 lead to a 21-9 lead at the 10:08 mark as
Harrison Warnock scored six points and
Tyler Small scored five during the run.
Jasson came back in the game at the 8:47 mark and proceeded to hit a three on the Eagles first possession after he came in. Warnock followed with a dunk and a layup from
Abdul-Basit Ajia made it a 32-18 game at the 5:47 mark. Jasson then caught fire in the final 3:21 of the half, scoring 16 straight points to end the half, including four straight three-pointers to give the Eagles a 48-29 lead at the break.
Jasson scored 19 points in the first half on 7-for-9 shooting, including 5-for-6 from three.
After the Griffins scored the first basket of the second half,
Isaiah Holmes scored seven of the next 11 points as Post went up 59-35 at the 15:46 mark of the game. The Griffins were unable to get closer than 19 points the rest of the way, as the Eagles used a 20-4 run from the 13:46 mark to the 6:51 mark to make it a 79-46 game, leaving no doubt of the result.
The Eagles shot 61.9 (39-for-63) percent from the field, by far the best of the season, surpassing its previous best of 53.7 percent. It was also the best shooting percentage since a 64.7 percent performance (33-for-51) against Goldey-Beacom last season in an 83-82 win.
The 92 points by the Eagles were a season-high as well as their margin of victory.
Post forced 18 turnovers, leading to 21 points. Post also outscored the Griffins in the paint, 46-28.
Warnock finished with 16 points on 8-for-10 shooting.
D.J. Frechette scored 12, and Holmes stuffed the box score with 11 points, eight assists and five rebounds. Ajia led the Eagles with seven rebounds to go with eight points.
Jasson's 23 points were a season high.
The Eagles won the rebounding edge, 37-27.
Post has now won the last six matchups against Chestnut Hill and lead the series, 12-3. Five of the last six wins have been by at least 18 points. The last time the two teams played in Waterbury in the 2019-2020 season, the Eagles won 109-71.
Conor Regan led Chestnut Hill with 15 points on 5-for-10 shooting.
