Bloomfield, N.J. - The Post University men's basketball team lost a 71-61 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game to Bloomfield on Wednesday afternoon.
The Eagles are now 7-7 overall and 2-3 in the CACC. The Bears are now 7-6 overall and 4-1 in the CACC.
Abdul-Basit Ajia led the Eagles with a team-high 15 points and seven rebounds.
Harrison Warnock had 12 points and seven rebounds, while
Isaiah Holmes had ten points.
A tightly contested first half saw the Eagles shoot 50 percent from the field on 16-for-32 shooting as Ajia made five of his six field goal attempts. The Eagles jumped out to an 11-5 lead as Ajia scored five points during the opening three minutes.
Post led for the majority of the first half until the Bears took the lead with 26 seconds left on a dunk from Tyrek Battle-Holley made it a 36-35 lead for the Bears. Holmes hit two free-throws with 14 seconds left before Josh Morris hit a jumper for Bloomfield that gave the Bears a 38-37 lead going into the half.
Warnock and Holmes each scored six points in the half for Post.
The Eagles took the lead just 27 seconds into the second half and wouldn't relinquish despite the Bears best efforts as the game remained no more than a two possession contest throughout.
Two instances during the second half the Eagles took ten point leads. The first coming on a three from
Collins Onyeike to make it 61-51 followed by a jumper from Ajia that made it a 63-53 game with 7:42 remaining.
However, the Bears went on a 14-2 run, capped by two free throws from Battle-Holley to give the Bears a 67-65 lead with 3:27 left.
Post tied it up with a bucket from Holmes at the 3:10 mark, but that would be the last bucket the Eagles would score, as the Bears scored the final ten points of the contest, with Josh Morris scoring seven of the points.
Onyeiike finished with 11 points and six rebounds to go along with a block and a steal.
The Eagles outrebounded the Bears, 41-39.
Morris finished with 26 points in 26 minutes for the Bears. He shot 10-for-20 from the field. Battle-Holley had 14.
