Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Wysocki Scores Twice, As Women's Hockey Ties With Sacred Heart

Fairfield, CT - Julia Wysocki scored two goals as the Post University women's hockey team held a late lead against Sacred Heart University, but ultimately tied with the Pioneers, 2-2 on Tuesday evening.

The Eagles are now 3-24-2 on the season while Sacred Heart is 13-13-2. The two teams, both members of the New England Women's Hockey Alliance (NEWHA) played the game as a non-conference matchup.

Sacred Heart took an early lead at the 12:45 mark on a goal from Nicole Guidi after redirecting a pss from Delani MacKay.

However, the Eagles got on the board less than four minutes later as Kiersten Browning made a pass from Post's goal line across center ice to Wysocki who just got on the ice in a line change and was wide open for a one-on-one opportunity and beat Sacred Heart goaltender, Carly Greene to tie the game, at the 16:29 mark.

The teams went into the first intermission tied, but it didn't take long into the second period for Wysocki to score her second goal of the game, and fourth of the season on a 2-on-1 breakaway with Hannah Luckman. Wysocki crossed the blueline with the puck, passed it to Luckman who tapped the puck back to Wysocki, who fell down while backhanding the goal into the net to give the Eagles a 2-1 lead just 1:28 in.

Post held that lead and into most of the third period behind the goaltending of Grace Glasrud who had 41 saves on the day. However, at the 18:22 mark of the third as the Pioneers were trying to get an extra skater on, MacKay took a backhanded shot from the slot over the shoulder of Glasrud to tie the game, 2-2.

The teams went into overtime with both teams having opportunities to score including a breakaway from Tymmarie Grom that was stopped by Greene.

It was the first time in 30 matches between the two teams that they have ended in a tie.

Browning and Wysocki both finished with a team-high five shots. Madeleine Noonan led the Eagles with ten faceoff wins.

Greene finished with 23 saves for the Pioneers.

Up next, the Eagles get some time off before playing Franklin Pierce in a weekend NEWHA series on Feb. 10 and 11 at 2 p.m. and 2:30 p.m., respectively.
