Women's Hockey Strikes First But Loses To Stonehill

Shelton, CT - The Post University women's hockey team lost a New England Women's Hockey Alliance (NEWHA) matchup to Stonehill, 4-1 on Saturday afternoon.

With the loss, the Eagles are now 3-24-1 on the season and 3-16-1. Stonehill is now 15-13-1 overall and 12-8-0 in NEWHA.

After a scoreless first period, the Eagles got on the board as Kiersten Browning scored her seventh goal of the season, taking a rebound from a shot from Sheridan Terrazzano and stuffing it into the back of the net to put Post up 1-0 at the 8:33 mark.

Less than six minutes later, Katie Sonntag tied the game up for the Skyhawks gathering a loose puck and scoring on a breakaway as the two teams went into the intermission tied at 1-1.

The Skyhawks took the lead at the 16:08 mark in the third as Sonntag made a pass to Sarah Taylar and took a wrist shot past Post goaltender Hannah Saunders to take a 2-1 lead.

Stonehill added two more goals, one from Maeve Carey off a rebound from a shot by Gracie Sacca and Paige Whaley with a backhanded goal.

Saunders finished with 25 saves. Post had 19 shots on the day. Terrazzano led the team with three.

Up next, the Eagles will play at Sacred Heart on Jan. 31 at 4 p.m. in NEWHA play.
