Shelton, CT - The Post University women's hockey team lost a 7-1 New England Women's Hockey Alliance (NEWHA) game to Stonehill on Friday evening at The Rinks at Shelton.
Post is now 3-23-1 overall and 3-15-1 in NEWHA. Stonehill is now 14-13-1 overall and 11-8-0 in NEWHA.
The Hawks struck just 1:56 into the game on a goal from Gracie Sacca. They'd score two more times from Kathrin Karo and Bailey Feeney, giving the Hawks a 3-0 into the first intermission.
The Eagles would get on the board at 4:27 in the second as a shot from
Catherine Proulx was deflected by
Emily Racco into the net to make it a 3-1 game. It was Racco's first goal of the season.
Stonehill scored a shorthanded goal in the second period from Maddison Achtyl, and the Hawks put the game away with goals from Paige Whaley and Lucie Turcotte just 43 seconds apart. Alexis Petford added a goal and an assit for the Hawks in the period.
In her first start in net,
Hali Lawrence stopped 34 shots, including 17 in the third period. The Eagles had 17 shots on goal, with
Caisey Van Den Oetelaar leading the way with six.
Julia Wysocki had a day in the faceoff circle, winning ten of her 15 draws.
The two teams will meet again on Saturday at 2:30 for Post's benefit game supporting Mission 22 and Wounded Warrior.
