Third Period Troublesome For Men's Hockey In Loss To Westfield State

Shelton, CT - The Post University men's hockey team lost a 3-1 non-conference game to Westfield State on Tuesday evening at The Rinks At Shelton.

The loss moves the Eagles to 5-15 overall. The Owls of Westfield State are now 8-9-1.

Solid goaltending kept the two teams scoreless through the first two periods Zach Richards, in his first start for the Eagles stopped all 25 shots he faced through the first 40 minutes while Westfield State's Kevin Chandler stopped 26 in the first two periods.

The Owls finally got on the board at the 7:17 mark in the third on a shorthanded goal on a two-on-one goal from Cory Morris, giving the Owls the 1-0 lead. At 9:36, Cooper Board scored on a breakaway, making it a 2-0 lead. The Owls scored one more from JoJo Carbone before the Eagles got on the board.

Post scored at the 14:30 mark when a shot from Ryan Cardow was stopped by Chandler, but the puck leaked out of his grasp and Connor Barter found the puck in front of the net and put it home for his fourth goal of the season. Patrick Murphy was also credited with an assist on the goal, which was his eighth on the season.

Richards finished with 38 saves on the day, while Chandler had 35. Post took 36 shots on the day, as Nick Brewer and Murphy led the way with five apiece.

The Owls squeaked by on the faceoff battle, 35-30. Murphy went 8-5 on the draws, while Niko Grollman went 8-9.

Up next, the Eagles get back into Northeast-10 Conference play with a two-game weekend series at Saint Anselm on Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. and 4 p.m., respectively.
