Bridgeport, CT – The Post University men's basketball team won its fourth straight game, beating the University of Bridgeport, 83-67 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North Division tilt.
The win moved Post to 12-8 overall and 7-4 in the CACC. Bridgeport is now 10-9 overall and 6-5 in the CACC.
David Jasson continued his hot shooting with a team-high 23 points – including 5-for-9 from three to go along with seven rebounds.
Harrison Warnock notched his fourth double-double of the season with 14 points and 12 rebounds.
Post never trailed in the game, scoring the first five points, the first three coming on a three-point shot from
Isaiah Holmes followed by a layup from Warnock.
Bridgeport would score the next five for the only tie of the game and the Eagles scored the next six, including a three from
D.J. Frechette and a layup from
Abdul-Basit Ajia to go up 11-5 at the 16:26 mark.
The Purple Knights knocked on the door after a layup from Ali Sumareh and a steal and layup from Matt Turner to trim Post's lead to 18-17 but the Eagles were able to stretch their lead back out to 27-19 as Jasson hit his first three of the game and Warnock scored four points in the stretch.
Cape Holden gave the Eagles a spark off the bench, scoring five consecutive points for the Eagles, including a three at the 8:19 mark to give Post its first double-digit lead of the game at 32-22. His three at the 5:57 mark gave the Eagles 39-24 lead at the 5:57 mark. Post went into the half leading 48-30 as the team shot 14-for-26 (53.4 percent) from the field.
A jumper from Holmes to kick off the second half gave the Eagles a 20-point lead at 50-30 and the Eagles would lead by as much as 24 (68-44) in the second half.
Bridgeport would then score the next 14 points with Turner leading the charge with seven points to make it a 68-58 game with 7:06 left. But back-to-back threes from Jasson ended any idea of a comeback as the Eagles went up 74-60 with 5:43 left.
Jasson shot 4-for-6 from three in the second half and has now shot 51.7 percent (15-for-29) from three over his last three games, while averaging 22 points per game in that span. He is sixth in the CACC in three-point percentage at 43.2 percent.
Holmes finished with 12 points on the day to go with four rebounds and four assists. He has now scored in double digits in 19 of 20 games for Post. Frechette finished with 13 points and five rebounds.
Ajia finished with eight points to go with ten rebounds. Holden finished with eight points and
Collins Onyeike had a team-high three blocks to go with four rebounds and five points. Onyeike is currently seventh in the CACC in blocks with 23.
The Eagles dominated on the glass, outrebounding Bridgeport, 47-32. Their 12 offensive rebounds led to 18 second-chance points.
Turner and Sumareh both finished with a team-high 13 points.
