Shelton, CT - The Post University men's hockey team held a two-goal lead early, but the Post University men's hockey team lost a 4-3 Northeast-10 game to Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) on Saturday afternoon in Northeast-10 play.
Post once again thrived on the power play, scoring three power play goals, including two in the first period.
In the first period,
Patrick Murphy got the Eagles on the board with his fifth goal of the season as
Nick Brewer took a slap shot just in front of he blueline and Murphy deflected it in to put Post up, 1-0.
Nick Weber then continued his scorching hot weekend with his 11th goal of the season as he easily weaved through the defense and easily beat SNHU goaltender Adam Mercer to give the Eagles a 2-0 lead that they took into the second period. It was Weber's fourth goal of the weekend.
Like on Friday, the Penmen rallied, scoring just 47 seconds into the second period o a goal from Ryan Houle.Â
Just 1:58 later on the power play, George Thurston took the puck past both blue lines and took a wrist shot past
Benjamin Cunneen to tie the game up. Brendan Lynch followed with a power play goal of his own, ripping a slap shot to make it a 3-2 SNHU lead.
Niko Grollman answered for the Eagles, taking a rebound off a shot from
Brandon Crowther, finsing a wide open net for his seventh of the season for the Eagles' third power play goal of the game and seventh of the weekend. It was also Grollman's seventh of the season and 20th of his career.
The Penmen, however took the lead on a breakaway goal from Matt Monreal on a power play at the 17:42 mark.
The teams were scoreless in the third.
Cunneen finished with 30 saves on the day. Mercer had 22 for SNHU.
Post had 25 shots, lef by Weber with five.
Up next, the Eagles host Westfield State on Tuesday, January 24 at 8 p.m. in non-conference action.
