Waterbury, CT - Isaiah Holmes scored a career-high 25 points as the Post University men's basketball team defeated goldey-Beacom, 73-61 on Saturday in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play.
It was the third straight win for the Eagles, who moved to 11-8 overall and 6-4 in the CACC. The Lightning are now 6-13 overall and 3-6 in the CACC.
Goldey-Beacom led 10-8 at the 14:39 mark before the Eagles went on a an 11-0 run, highlighted by eight points from Holmes to give Post the 19-10 lead. The Lightning tied the game at 21-21, led by seven points from Damani Thomas during the stretch.Â
Post scored the next seven points on a jumper from Holmes, a three from
David Jasson and a layup from
Kyle Alcy to put Post up 28-21. The Eagles would lead 32-26 heading into the half.
The second half saw the Lightning hit a three to start the half, but a jumper from Holmes and a three from
D.J. Frechette and a jumper frol
Collins Onyeike put Post back up 39-31 at the 15:59 mark.
Behind two layups from Frechette, a dunk from Abdul-Basit Ajia and a jumper from Holmes, the Eagles took their first double digit lead of the game at 49-39. The Lightning cut the Eagles lead to 61-56 after a layup from Cardin Joubert, but a 7-2 run, led by Jasson put Post back up 68-58 with 1:53 left.
The Lightning wouldn't threaten the rest of the way.
Post shot 18-for-28 (64.3 pct) in the second half.
Jasson finished with 16 points with four rebounds and three assists, including 11 points in the second half. Frechette scored 14 with four rebounds and three assists. Ajia had four points, six rebounds and four assists.
Harrison Warnock finished with four points and sic rebounds.Onyeike also had six rebounds.
Holmes shot 11-for-14 from the field.
Thomas finished with a game-high 29 points for the Lightning. Zayon Marsh had a monster game with 17 points and 17 rebounds.
Up next, the Eagles head to Bridgeport to take on the Purple Knights at 7 p.m. on January 25.
