Fairfield, CT - The Post University women's ice hockey team held a two-goal lead, but fell 3-2 to Sacred Heart in New England Women's Hockey Alliance (NEWHA) action.
Sheridan Terrazzano got the Eagles (3-21-1, 3-13-1 NEWHA) on the board at the 2:01 mark of the first as she rebounded her own backhanded shot and sent another attempt just in front of the net past Sacred Heart goaltender, Carly Greene, giving the Eagles the 1-0 lead. It was Terrazzano's team-leading seventh goal of the season.
Post went into the first intermission with the one goal lead and would double their lead as
Julia Wysocki made a centering pass to
Madeleine Noonan whose shot was stopped. The rebound came out to
Caisey Van Den Oetelaar who took a shot that went through a sea of players and into the back of the net for her first goal of the season at the 9:24 mark.Â
The Pioneers (12-13-1, 9-7-1 NEWHA), however, would respond with three goals in a 2:08 span. The first coming on a goal from Julianna Koman at the 15:25 mark. Rachel DeLong would tie the tgame at the 16:26 mark as a shot from Anastasia Sloan deflected off her stick and into the net. Sydney Antonakis scored on a breakaway, giving the Pioneers the 3-2 lead.
Both teams would go scoreless in the third.
In net,
Grace Glasrud stopped 32 shots on the day, including 13 in the second period. Noonan won a team-high eight faceoffs. Post finished with 22 shots on net on the day with Terrazzano leading the way with five and Noonan and Wysocki with four.
Sajel Desai had a team-high six blocked shots. Post blocked 19 shots as a team.
The two teams meet again on Saturday at Sacred Heart at 2 p.m.
