Rutherford, N.J. – David Jasson made seven three-pointers and
D.J. Frechette hit six of his own as the Post University men's basketball team defeated Felician, 87-63 on Tuesday evening in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North Division game.
The Eagles hit 17 three-pointers in total, the most since they made 17 in a win over Holy Family in 2019-2020 and one short of the program record of 18 done in a 2018-2019 win over Holy Family. The win was the second straight for the Eagles as they moved to 10-8 overall and 5-4 in the CACC. Felician is now 4-13 overall and 0-8 in the CACC.
Both Jasson and Frechette finished with career-highs in points. Jasson scored 27, while Frechette had 24.
Abdul Basit-Ajia notched his second double-double of the season with 14 points and ten rebounds. He also had three assists on the evening.
Isaiah Holmes scored ten points and was 2-for-5 from three.
It didn't take long for Frechette to get going, hitting his first three just 16 seconds into the game and scored the first eight points for the Eagles before Jasson scored the next eight points to give Post a 16-12 lead at the 13:48 mark. Both Jasson and Frechette hit two threes during the opening run.
After Felician tied the game, 16-16, two more threes from Frechette and one from Holmes and
Tyler Small helped give Post go up 28-20 at the 8:33 mark. Jasson and Holmes would both hit one more three in the half as Post led 40-34 at the break. The Eagles went 10-for-16 from deep in the first half.
Frechette scored just 14 seconds into the second half and Jasson hit two threes as Post took a 56-45 lead at the 14:57 mark.
Felician looked to crawl back, cutting the Post lead to 58-52 after a jumper from Enik Peci, but the Eagles sored the next 13 points, including two more threes from Jasson, one from Frechette and four points from Ajia.
Post would lead by as much as 25 and were never threatened the rest of the way.
Frechette made all six of his three-point attempts, while Jasson went 7-for-10 from deep. As a team, the Eagles shot 60.7 percent (17-for-28) from three.
The defense of the Eagles came up big as well, holding Felician to just 9-for-27 shooting in the second half, including 1-for-11 from three (9.1 percent).
The teams were even in the rebound battle at 35 apiece
. Harrison Warnock finished with four points and seven rebounds. Small finished with three points, a team-high seven assists and five rebounds. Post forced 18 turnovers on the day, leading to 12 points.
Post now leads the all-time series over Felician 26-18 and have won five of the last six games between the two.
Anas Amos led Felician with 17 points. Sean McCarthy scored 12 points to go with eight rebounds.
