Shelton, CT – The Post University scored five goals in the first period and set two program records in a 7-3 win over Saint Michael's in a New England Women's Hockey Alliance (NEWHA) match at The Rinks at Shelton.
The seven goals were the most they've scored in a game in program history and the five goals in the first were the most goals they've scored in a period.
Post is now 3-18-1 overall and 3-11-1 in NEWHA. The Purple Knights are now 1-16-2 and 1-11-2
Tymmarie Grom led the Eagles with two goals – the first two of her career to go along with an assist.
Madeleine Noonan, Sheridan Terrazzano and
Rylee Patfield each had a goal and an assist, while
Jenna Abeyta and
Julia Wysocki had a goal each.
The Eagles got on the board just 32 seconds into the game as Noonan took a rebound off a shot from Terrazzano and took a shot in front of the net to give Post the 1-0 lead in the Eagles on her fourth goal of the season.
Kiersten Browning also had the first of her two assists on the game.
At the 8:55 mark of the first, Terrazzano scored her sixth goal of the season receiving a pass from Noonan at the right faceoff circle and putting it through the legs of Purple Knights goaltender, Carissa Mudrak.
Grom's first career goal came just after the ensuing faceoff, taking a pass from
Holly Kubichek, who was behind the net and took a shot that bounced off of Mudrak and into the net for her first career goal.
Saint Michael's made a goalie change, but the Eagles kept the scoring going as Abeyta scored her second of the season ripping a slapshot from just in front of the blueline to make it a 4-0 game.
The final goal of the period came at the 18:23 mark when Patfield scored as she was falling towards the net to make it a 5-0 game.
Emily Racco received the assist on the goal.
Saint Michael's scored a goal in the second, but just 4:47 into the third, Grom scored her second goal of the game, putting a rebound off a shot from
Caisey van den Oetelaar to make it a 6-1 game.
The Purple Knights scored two goals just 38 seconds apart to make it a 6-3 game, but the Eagles would slam the door shut on any comeback attempt as Wysocki scored off a rebound from a shot from Grom for her second of the season.
Hannah Saunders earned a win in net stopping 26 shots.
