Flushing, N.Y. - Hailey McGee scored two goals, including the game winner in the 77th minute, as the Post University women's soccer team won its first game of the season, a 3-1 victory over Queens College on Tuesday evening.
For McGee, it was the second game this season she has scored two goals in a game. She now has four this season.
McGee got the Eagles on the board in the tenth minute on a free kick from 35 yards out that curled into the left side of the net past Queens goalkeeper Ariana Vargas to give the Eagles the 1-0 lead.
Queens (0-4) tied the game in the 27th minute and the two teams went into the half tied, 1-1.
McGee broke the scoreless second half in the 77th minute, taking a pass from
Kaeleigh Serianni who was just in front of the midfield line. The pass found McGee streaking down the field alongside a defender as Vargas came out of the net to try and stop the ball. The ball went past Vargas and McGee was able to put the ball into an empty net to give the Eagles the 2-1 lead.Â
Zoe Mier would then score her first career goal of the season in the 82nd minute, taking a rebound off a free kick from Serianni and putting into the net for the final tally of the game.
Imelda Lazaro stopped four shots in net for the Eagles (1-4) for her first win in net of the season.
The Eagles outshot the Knights, 14-9, with McGee leading the way with eight.
Up next for Post is the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference and home opener against Holy Family at noon on September 10.
