South Burlington, VT. - Madeleine Noonan scored her first career goal, but the Post University women's hockey team lost its opening game, 6-2 to Saint Michael's in a New England Women's Hockey Alliance (NEWHA) game on Friday evening.
Noonan's goal came just 2:31 into the first period to put the Eagles up, 1-0 on assists from
Caisey Van Den Oetellar and
Holly Kubichek.Â
The Purple Knights scored the next five goals, including two from Angelina Ruiz, giving Saint Michael's a 5-1 lead.
Kiersten Browning scored on a power play in the third at the 10:28 mark on assists from
Sheridan Terrazzano and
Cassidy Elvidge. Browning had six goals last season, which was tied for the team lead.
The Purple Knights tacked on one more in the third for the final tally.
Grace Glasrud had 17 saves in net in her first start of the season.
Julia Wysocki won 12 of her 21 faceoffs on the day.
Post outshot Saint Michael's, 42-23, with Terrazzano leading the way with five.
The two teams meet again on Saturday at 3:45 p.m.
