Lakewood, N.J. - The Post University women's volleyball team lost a 3-1 (12-25, 23-25, 25-15, 22-25) match to Georgian Court in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) matchup on Friday evening.
Post now moves to 4-10 on the season and 2-4 in the CACC. Georgian Court is 6-8 overall and 2-2 in the CACC.
Georgian Court took set one after scoring the first seven points and the final six to take a 1-0 lead.
In a much more competitive second set, the Eagles rallied staved off eight straight set points as two aces and a kill from Lydimar Soto and kills from Datari Mathis and Aniya Goodman made it a 24-23 Lions lead. However, the Lions scored the final point to go up 2-0 in the match on a kill from Nylene Mateo.
The Eagles took set three thanks in large part to an opening 10-3 start as Soto had three more kills along with a kill and ace from Zara McCauley, staking them to the large early lead. It was the closest the Lions would get as the Eagles would lead by as much as 12 points in the set to make it a 2-1 match.
The fourth set saw the Eagles take an 18-14 lead thanks to a 6-3 run as two kills from Soto and one from Madelynn Boop gave the Eagles its biggest lead of the set. The Lions rallied to take a 22-20 lead. The Eagles staved off one match point on a kill from McCauley before Mateo ended the match with a kill of her own for the Lions.
Soto had 17 kills to lead the Eagles to go along with four aces. Goodman had eight kills and two blocks. Izabella Rae had a team-high five aces. Maria Fernanda Branco led the Eagles in assists with 33 and digs with 12.
Mateo had 16 kills for the Lions and two blocks.
Up next, the Eagles will take on the newcomer to the CACC, Bridgeport at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, September 27 at the Drubner Center.
