Waterbury, Conn. – Former Post University standout basketball player Devonte McCall recently signed with the Wiha Schwenningen Panthers of the second tier Germany ProA Basketball League.
 
McCall, a 2022 graduate of Post, put together one of the all-time great seasons in program history as the Eagles won the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North Division for the first time since the 2007-08 season.



McCall was named both CACC Player and Defensive Player of the Year as well as making the All-CACC First Team after a season in which he averaged 19.3 points, 7.5 rebounds to go with 59 blocks on the season. He was also named to the Division II Conference Commissioners' Association All-East Region First Team and made the All-National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-East Region Second Team.


 
McCall was presented the opportunity to play in Germany through his agent, Oliver Macklin, a former basketball player at the University of Connecticut from 1989-1993.
 
Making the transition from college basketball to pro, McCall said "It's more physical and it feels like there aren't many plays where you aren't getting hit and the speed of the game is faster."


 
McCall learned under the tutelage of Post University head coach and 2021-2022 CACC Coach of the Year Marc Kuntz to help him prepare for his time as a pro.
 
"The verbiage is the same. 'Pick and roll. Pick and pop' and I am not lost on the set pieces," McCall said. "The practices are just as intense, too."
 
McCall has played in six exhibitions so far this season, averaging close to 15 points per game. In his most recent game, McCall had 28 points, seven rebounds and seven steals.
 
Founded in 2016, the Panthers were promoted to the ProA league after the 2018-2019 season after making it to the semifinals in the ProB league.
 
The Panthers open up their 2022-2023 season on October 1 against Dresden.
