Women's Volleyball Loses Close 5-Set Thriller To Dominican

Orangeburg, N.Y. - The Post University women's volleyball team lost its first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match of the year to Dominican, 3-2 (25-17, 21-25, 16-25, 25-16, 15-9) on Tuesday evening.

Post is now 3-7 on the season and 1-1 in the CACC. Dominican moves to 4-5 and 2-0 in the CACC.

Lydimar Soto led the Eagles with 14 kills. Maria Fernanda Branco had two blocks and a team-high 32 assists. Alyssa Groves had four aces and 18 digs, both team highs.

Post took set one, thanks in part to a 9-1 run that gave the Eagles a 14-7 lead. Groves had three consecutive aces in the deciding run. Post never trailed by less than five the rest of the way and scored the final two points on kills by Soto.

Dominican took set two, taking a 14-10 lead after scoring five straight points. Dominican led by as much as eight and tied the match at 1-1.

The Chargers never trailed in set  three, jumping to a 12-6 lead early on before taking a 2-1 lead.

Set four was knotted at 8-8 before an 10-3 run by the Eagles gave them an 18-11 lead with the last six points coming on kills. Zara McCauley had three kills during the stretch, while Kaitlyn Lemmon had two. Post scored five of the last six points, the final on a kill from McCauley that tied the match at 2-2.

In the fifth, with the set tied, 5-5, the Chargers scored seven straight to take a 12-5 lead. Post closed to within 13-9 after a kill from McCauley, but the Chargers scored the final two points to take the match.

McCauley finished with eight kills, while Lemmon had seven kills and two blocks. 

Kaitlyn Carr led Dominican with 16 kills and three aces. Alessandra Pantoja had 44 assists.

Up next, the Eagles will play Chestnut Hill on the road on September 15 at 7 p.m.
