Men's Soccer Outshoots Adelphi, But Loses After Two Second Half Goals

Garden City, N.Y. - The Post University men's soccer team lost a 2-0 match to Adelphi on Saturday evening in a non-conference game.

The Eagles are now 1-1 on the season while Adelphi moves to 2-0.

A scoreless first half saw both teams take four shots apiece, with David Mollenthiel saving both shots that were on net. The teams remained scoreless going into halftime.

The two teams remained scoreless for the first 19 minutes of the second half before Victor Castel scored for Adelphi to make it a 1-0 game. The Panthers added one more ten minutes later on a by Rodrigo Descalzo Rocca.

Post outshot the Panthers 10-8, with Sergio Sanchez leading the way with three for the Eagles. Post also had the edge in corner kicks, 5-2.

"We had a great opening tournament at Adelphi and I am very proud of our guys. We played poorly against AIC but found a way to win," head coach Ted Haley said. "Today we were the better team against Adelphi and played very good football, but we didn't finish our chances. The good news is that we will only get better as we have so many new players. To play the good football we are playing this early is a great sign for our season ahead."

Up next, the Eagles will take on No. 12 Franklin Pierce in a rematch of the second round of the 2021 NCAA Regionals on the road at 7 p.m.
