Waterbury, Conn. - The Post University softball team used the long ball in game one and used their arms in game two as the Eagles swept Jefferson, 10-1 and 4-0 on Saturday afternoon in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader.
In game one, trailing 1-0, the Eagles scored three runs in the bottom of the third, highlighted by an RBI single from Bailee Zaccaro giving them a 3-1 lead.
Post (12-12, 6-6 CACC) opened up the floodgates in the bottom of the fourth. Brianna Koref led off with a walk. After a fly out, Alexa Pacy singled. Samantha Riccardulli would reach on an error before Caitlin DeAngelis singled to score Koref.
Zaccaro hit her second RBI single of the game before Allyson Wallauer hit a grand slam off the right field scoreboard, giving the Eagles the 9-1 lead. It was her team-leading sixth home run of the season. The bats weren't done yet as Kasey Jusino followed with her third homer of the season, a solo shot giving Post the 10-1 lead.
Koref shut down the Rams (6-16, 5-7 CACC) in the fifth for her eighth win of the season. She struck out three in five innings.
Wallauer drove in five runs on the day. Zaccaro was 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run. Jusino was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run.
In game two, Wallauer continued her hot hitting staking the Eagles to a 1-0 lead at the end of the first to give Post a 1-0 lead followed by a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the third to give Post a 2-0 lead. Jusino also hit a sacrifice fly putting Post up, 3-0.
In the fifth, DeAngelis hit her fourth homer of the season for the Eagles final run of the game.
Maddison Caldwell pitched a complete game, allowing just seven hits.
Up next, the Eagles host Dominican on April 12 in a doubleheader beginning at 2:30 p.m.
