Waterbury, Conn. - The Post University softball team split a doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon against Dominican College in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play. The Chargers won game one, 2-1 while the Eagles took game two, 8-4.
In the game two win, the Eagles used a four-run third inning to take a commanding 5-1 lead at the time as Allyson Wallauer and Alexa Pacy each hit two-run singles in the inning. All the baserunners reached with two outs in the inning.
The Chargers scored one in the top of the fifth before the Eagles got three more in the bottom of the sixth. After Caitlin DeAngelis reached base on an error, Bailee Zaccaro hit an RBI double, making it a 6-1 game. Wallauer followed with an RBI double to score Zaccaro. Kasey Jusino followed with a single and with runners on the corner and Juliana Rigano at the plate, the Eagles pulled off a double steal as Wallauer stole home while Jusino stole second, making it an 8-2 game.
The Chargers would add two more in the top of the seventh but left runners on second and third.
Wallauer – the reigning CACC Player of the Week – finished the game 2-for-4 with two runs and three RBI. Pacy was 1-for-4 with three RBI. Zaccaro was 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI.
Maddison Caldwell pitched a complete game, giving up four runs on ten hits while striking out four.
In game one the Eagles were hitless until the bottom of the seventh where they rallied for their only run of the game. In the seventh, Zaccaro led off with a walk and advanced to third on a double from Wallauer. With one out, Rigano walked and was followed by a fielder's choice from Julianna Cicala that scored Zaccaro. However, the Eagles were unable to plate another run as baserunners were left on second and third.
Up next, the Eagles head to Bloomfield to take on the Bears in a CACC doubleheader on April 14, beginning at 2:30 p.m.
