Waterbury, Conn. - The Post University baseball team split a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader against Jefferson on Saturday afternoon at Municipal Stadium. The Eagles took game one, 11-4 before dropping game two, 12-2.
In the game one win, the Eagles jumped out the gates fast in the bottom of the first, taking a 3-1. Robert Olah hit an RBI single, followed by a bases loaded walk from Evan Cornwell and a sacrifice fly from Jordan Glazer.
After a 45-minute rain delay, the Eagles bats didn't cool down, scoring five more in the bottom of the third scoring all their runs with two outs. A walk to Cornwell started the rally followed by a single from Glazer and a walk to Chris Corchado. After a pitching change, Kelvin Gutierrez ripped a double off of the right field fence, clearing the bases to make it a 7-1 Post lead. Michael Pavelchak followed with an RBI single to score Gutierrez, making it an 8-1 game.
Back-to-back RBI doubles by Cornwell and Glazer gave Post a 10-3 lead in the bottom of the fourth, while Nate Miller hit his fourth homer of the season in the sixth.
On the mound, Dan Raglievich pitched three innings, striking out five, while Jacob Tamburrino pitched four in relief, striking out four and earning his third win of the season.
Pavelchak was 4-for-4 with an RBI and a run. Miller was 1-for-1 with three runs and an RBI and drew three walks. Glazer was 2-for-3 with three RBI and a run.
In game two, the Eagles (11-19, 7-4 CACC) struck first with an RBI single in the first.
The Rams (15-15, 6-7 CACC), however, used a six-run top of the fifth inning, highlighted by a two-run homer from Zach Austin as they took a 10-1. They would tack on two more in the seventh before Evan Wilkinson hit an RBI double in the bottom of the inning for the game's final run.
