Pomona, N.Y. - Jimmy Brennan homered twice as the Post University baseball team swept a doubleheader against Dominican, 12-10 and 7-6 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play on Sunday afternoon.
In game one, Brennan put the Eagles on the board with a two-run homer in the top of the third, staking the Eagles to a 2-0 lead before the Chargers scored three in the bottom of the inning to take the lead.
Post scored three more in the fourth, including a bases loaded walk to
Michael Pavelchak and a sacrifice fly to score
Hunter Keller.
The Eagles scored twice in the sixth and blew the game open in the seventh with five runs. Post scored its first two runs on an error and an RBI single from Pavelchak before Brennan hit his second homer of the game, a three-run shot to put Post up, 12-5.Â
Dominican scored one in the seventh and rallied for four in the ninth, but left two runners on, including the tying run on second as the Eagles secured game one.
Brennan finished the game 2-for-5 with two runs and six RBI. Pavelchak was 1-for-4 with two runs, two RBI and two walks.
Evan Cornwell and
Jordan Glazer were both 2-for-4 with two runs.
Starter
Joe Christiana pitched four innings, striking out seven.
Chas Cywin closed out the final 4.2 innings, striking out five.
In game two, the Eagles jumped out to a 4-0 lead, including three RBI singles from
Robert Olah, Glazer and
Harry Allegra.
The Chargers responded with five in the bottom of the second, taking a 5-4 lead.
After the Eagles tied the game in the top of the third, Dominican again took a 6-5 lead, Post used a two-run top of the fourth to take the lead. In the inning,
Nate Miller walked with one out and Cornwell followed with an RBI triple. The next batter, Glazer, singled in the go-ahead run giving Post the 7-6 lead.Â
Pavelchak was 3-for-5 with a run. Cornwell was 2-for-5 with two runs and an RBI. Glazer was 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run.
Up next, the Eagles host Queens in a non-conference game on April 12 at 3 p.m.
Matt Costello pitched 4.2 innings of hitless and scoreless relief, striking out five, earning his first win of the season.
