Caldwell, N.J. – The Post University softball team won a thrilling game one, 6-5 before dropping game two 9-1 to Caldwell in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon.
With the game tied 4-4 heading into the seventh, Caitlin DeAngelis led off with a single. After Bailee Zaccaro reached on a fielder's choice and a sandwiched in between, Kasey Jusino hit a two-run homer to right field giving Post the 6-4 lead. It was Jusino's first homer of the season.
In the bottom of the inning, Caldwell scored a run, but left two runners on as the Eagles took game one.
Post (10-12, 4-6 CACC) struck first in the game on a two-run single from Allyson Wallauer, to put Post up 2-0.
Caldwell scored two in the bottom of the inning and the Eagles would again take the lead in the top of the fifth on a two-run homer from Wallauer, her fifth of the season, putting the Eagles up 4-2.
Caldwell scored one in the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings, making for a dramatic seventh inning.
Wallauer finished the day 2-for-4 with four RBI and a run. DeAngelis was 4-for-4 with a run. Jusino was 2-for-4 2ith two RBI and a run.
Brianna Koref pitched a complete game, striking out two for her seventh win of the season.
In game two Caldwell took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first and the Eagles responded with another homer from Jusino making it a 2-1 lead.
However, the Cougars (15-6, 5-1 CACC) scored two more in the bottom of the second, three in the third and two more in the fifth to take the 9-1 lead.
Chloe VanGorder was 2-for-2 with three RBI and a run. Maya Rodriguez was 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
The Eagles had just two hits in the game.
Up next, the Eagles play at Southern Connecticut State University at 3 p.m. in a doubleheader on April 7.
