Waterbury, Conn. – The Post University softball team gave up just one run over 14 innings of pitching in a 2-1, 6-0 sweep of the University of the Sciences on Friday afternoon in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play.
The win moves Post to 18-16 overall and 12-10 in CACC play.
In game one, Brianna Koref allowed just one run – coming in the first inning – on five hits and a walk in the win for the Eagles.
Post scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth to take the lead for good. After Allyson Wallauer singled to lead off the inning, Kasey Jusino doubled to drive in Wallauer, tying the game, 1-1. A groundout advanced Jusino to third and a single from Alexa Pacy put runners on the corners before Koref helped her own cause with a sacrifice fly to score Jusino.
Koref allowed just two base runners the rest of the way.
In game two, Maddison Caldwell allowed just five hits in a complete game, striking out one in the win.
The Eagles broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the third as the first three batters reached. Courtney Brobst walked followed by a single by Pacy and a ground rule double from Caitlin DeAngelis to score Brobst to put the Eagles on the board.
Bailee Zaccaro followed with a sacrifice fly and Wallauer hit an RBI single to give the Eagles a 3-0 lead.
The Devils (12-26, 9-9 CACC) threatened in the top of the fourth, loading the bases with two outs, but Caldwell got Lauren DelGiudice to ground out to end the inning.
Post tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the sixth as Julianna Cicala doubled to drive in Wallauer, who doubled to lead off the inning and Jusino, who reached on an error. Samantha Riccardulli would drive in Cicala on a sacrifice fly.
Cicala was 1-for-3 with two RBI. Wallauer was 2-for-2 with a run.
Up next, the Eagles host University of Bridgeport on Sunday, April 24. It will also be Senior Day for the Eagles.
