Caldwell, N.J. – The Post University men's lacrosse team held off a second half rally to defeat Caldwell, 12-11 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game on Saturday afternoon.
The Eagles now are at 4-4 overall and 2-1 in the CACC.
The two teams were tied 2-2 after the first as Caldwell struck first before two straight goals from Robbie McGrayne gave Post the early lead. Caldwell scored with two seconds remaining in the first.
Dylan Heald gave the Eagles the lead to kick off the second before the teams tied again at 3-3. However, the Eagles scored the next four goals of the second and first three of the third to take a commanding 10-3 lead.
Brendan Kelleher and Heald each scored twice during the run. Nick Meier, Nicholas Steele and Jonah McNaughton also scored.
The Eagles took a 12-7 lead on Meier's second goal of the game with 4:10 in the fourth. Caldwell mounted a comeback, scoring the final three goals of the third to make it a 12-10 game. The two teams remained in a defensive battle in the fourth as the Cougars would only score once in the fourth as the Eagles held on to the win.
John Carr finished with a career-high 20 saves in net for the Eagles.
